The VX series GTS retains everything that made the VT GTS 300i great and puts it with the new styling and features of the VX series along with a new style 5 spoke 19 inch wheel package, making the VX GTS the first GTS offered standard with 19 inch wheels. The VX GTS retains the same C4B LS1 5.7L V8 engine that delivered a genuine 300kw and 510Nm of torque in the VT GTS 300i.
The VX GTS was produced as a limited edition model with only 287 vehicles being produced in 2001 and a one off special in the Series II, all cars were only available with manual transmission. The VX GTS is the first car fitted with massive 19 inch wheels in Australian motoring history.

HSV set out to develop a special Gen III engine totally unique to Australia, which resulted in a working relationship with Corvette hot shop, Callaway, to develop a benchmark powerplant for the Australian unique breed of heavy premium muscle performance sedans. With the LS1 engine being extensively modified internally over the base LS1 offered by Holden. The results, a C4B LS1 5.7L V8 engine that delivered a genuine 300kW (402hp) and 510Nm of torque.
